As good as running is in San Diego, we are not immune from running injuries. And, preventing running injuries starts with the proper shoe fitting.

To help you minimize the risk of incurring running injuries, San Diego Running Institute seeks to utilize the most current available scientific research pertaining to gait analysis, foot and ankle biomechanics, and running related injuries to put runners and walkers alike into the best possible shoe specifically for the individual.

When it comes to fitting shoes, your experience at San Diego Running Institute will be unlike any other shoe store in San Diego. After getting information about you, your activities and any existing conditions, we measure your foot to find out your running shoe size. But it doesn't stop there.

In addition we include the following programs all designed to increase your running enjoyment and prevent running injuries:

  • Measure your arch drop on each foot
  • Measure your rear foot pronation on each foot
  • Look at your posture
  • Examine where your feet callus
  • Check for Hallux Rigidus, which is important to proper toe off when running
  • Find out what kind of runner you are: do you heel strike or toe run? Knowing your running gait is vital to proper shoe fitting.
  • After a shoe is selected, we watch you run on a treadmill in the shoe to make sure your gait is good and the shoes are comfortable. Running gait is different than walking gait…another way we make sure the running shoe you purchase it right for you and your running in San Diego.

This service is a free with your shoe purchase ($25.00 without purchase). The exam form is kept on file for future purchases.
